U.S. Government Recommendations for Iodine Intake (but no Nascent Iodine Dosage)
The U.S. Daily Recommended Allowance is not set for nascent iodine dosage, but for regular iodine, it is 150 mcg for men and women, and 220 mcg for pregnant women per day. Intake recommendations for iodine and other nutrients are provided in the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) developed by the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies (formerly National Academy of Sciences). These agencies have established a set of reference values used for planning and assessing nutrient intakes of people, which vary by age and gender. These values are deemed adequate by the U.S. Government for basic intake of, as we said, healthy people. The proper nascent iodine dosage is a little more nuanced.
Although the government specifies simply “iodine”, many people have become familiar with the term “nascent iodine”, which means that the iodine has been processed in such a way that the iodine molecule has the diatomic bond broken and has a high amount of electromagnetic energy associated with it. During the two to three hours of activation time (within the human body, once diluted in water and consumed), the nascent Iodine atom has the ability to be of assistance to the body.
What Health Practitioners, Holistic Doctors, and Health Advocates are Using
Many individuals in the holistic health movement are using a test described as follows: Drop a few drops of 2% tincture of iodine on the skin of your inner arm and allow it to dry. If it disappears rapidly (in a few hours) then, your need for iodine may be greater than average. Seven to ten drops of nascent iodine in the morning fifteen minutes before breakfast (in a glass of one or two ounces of water), and again in the early afternoon is a typical nascent iodine dosage.
An Effective Way to Start Your Iodine Therapy
If you would like to adhere to more conservative dosage recommendations, but want to try iodine therapy, there is a regimen which has been used very widely in the holistic health community and has been recommended by physicians who endorse iodine supplementation. The adult dose is 4 drops of 2% tincture of nascent iodine in the morning and 4 drops in the evening. In addition, it is best to start with one drop twice a day and to gradually increase by one drop every 3-7 days to allow the body to become acclimated to the fresh supply of nascent iodine.
For Adults There Are Two Effective Ways to Take This Iodine
If your stomach is empty, put the drops in ½ glass of water and drink it. You will know if you have an empty stomach by the way you feel; if you feel hungry and it is at least 2-3 or more hours after eating or drinking anything other than water, your stomach will be empty. After taking the iodine, please wait 30 minutes before eating. If your stomach has food or drink in it, you can put a small amount of water in a glass, add the drops and hold this water in your mouth for 3-5 minutes, then swallow. Most of the iodine will be absorbed through your mouth.
